The puzzle, explained

The purple group is all about NFL team names hidden at the start of famous people's names—COLT McCoy (Colts), SAINT Joseph's (Saints), RAMBLERS (Rams), and LIONEL Messi (Lions). The tricky part is that these work in singular form, so you're thinking of one colt, one saint, one rambler, and one lion, each of which happens to be an NFL team when pluralized. AUSTIN was definitely the bait here since it's a Texas city and screams "University of Texas" along with Bevo and Burnt Orange, but it's actually not connected to that group at all. Similarly, GIRO D'ITALIA might've tempted you into the cycling races if you weren't paying close attention, but it's firmly in the green group with the other Grand Tours.
