The puzzle, explained

The purple group is all about the different meanings of "Bill"—BELICHICK is famous coach Bill, BUFFALO refers to Buffalo Bill, RUSSELL is Bill Russell the basketball legend, and HAT BRIM is literally the bill of a hat. The trickiest part is that BUFFALO and NEW ENGLAND both connect to Tom Brady, so you might've been tempted to group them together, but BUFFALO actually belongs in the purple group as Buffalo Bill. Similarly, BELICHICK is Brady-adjacent since he was Brady's coach in New England for two decades, which makes it easy to accidentally throw him in the green group instead of recognizing he's just another famous Bill. RUSSELL could also trip you up since he's a sports legend like the other Brady-related names, but he's really just in there because his first name is Bill!
