The puzzle, explained

The trickiest part is that MÜLLER and LEWANDOWSKI sound like regular words (a miller and someone who does something, respectively), so they could trick you into thinking they belong with the blue synonyms for "shot" instead. MAX is the real bait here though—it's a super common word that could fit almost anywhere, making you second-guess whether it's actually a player name or belongs with the yellow "in first place" group (maxing out, being at the max, etc.). WORM is probably the giveaway once you realize it's a last name, since that's the only one that *doesn't* sound like an English word at all. If you grabbed STRIKE or PILE-DRIVER for the shot synonyms, you definitely fell into the wordplay trap since those are the toughest to distinguish from actual player names.
