The puzzle, explained

The purple group is all about clubs whose names contain all five vowels (A, E, I, O, U)—so Olympique de Marseille has them all, Rotherham United covers all five, Olympique Lyonnais does too, and Torquay United sneaks in all of them as well. The tricky part is that OLYMPIQUE and OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS could've felt like they belonged together since they're both French clubs, and ROTHERHAM UNITED and TORQUAY UNITED are both English, so that grouping seemed really plausible. Plus, all four of these clubs could theoretically show up in competitions or have done things in their histories, which might've made people want to slot them into the blue group with Neymar's actual achievements. The real connector has nothing to do with soccer accomplishments or geography—it's purely a linguistic puzzle hidden inside the soccer theme.
