The puzzle, explained

The purple group is all Premier League players whose last names read the same forwards and backwards—Ojo, Ekitike, Eze, and Kabak are all palindromes! The tricky part is that none of these names are super recognizable, so you might've second-guessed yourself or missed the wordplay angle entirely. The real bait here was the blue group: CHILLY, WHALES, GREASE, and HUNGRY all sound like past World Cup teams (Chile, Wales, Greece, Hungary) when you say them out loud, which probably pulled your brain away from thinking about player surnames. Once you locked in that blue group, purple became way more obvious—you just needed to spot that palindrome pattern and know these players exist!
