The puzzle, explained
ELEGY was a tricky one because that double E caught a lot of people off guard—most Wordles don't repeat letters, so your brain isn't always primed to guess one. The Y at the end threw things off too, since it's functioning as a vowel there rather than a consonant, which meant you really needed to think about less common word endings. If you started with a standard opener like STARE or CRANE, you probably felt stuck after getting that first E, since ELEGY doesn't have many common consonants to work with (just L and G). On the flip side, once you nailed down the E-_-E-G-Y pattern, there weren't many words that fit, so the puzzle actually solved itself pretty quickly.
