The puzzle, explained

The purple group is all things that can follow "baseball" to make common phrases—baseball cards, baseball bat, baseball reference (the stats website), and baseball cap. The trickiest bait here was definitely "cards" and "cap," which could easily trick you into thinking about the St. Louis Cardinals mascot or a generic piece of sports equipment, when really they're just part of compound words with "baseball." "Bat" was sneaky too since it's literally baseball equipment, so your brain wants to dump it in the yellow group with the sleds and skis. And "reference" might've seemed random until you realized it completes the phrase for that famous baseball statistics database that every fan knows.
