The puzzle, explained

The purple group is all FIFA country codes—BAN for Bangladesh, FRA for France, CAM for Cambodia, and TAH for Tahiti—which is such a sneaky category because none of those abbreviations immediately scream "country" to most people. The real trap was that BAN, CAM, and TAH all look like they could be common English words (especially BAN as a verb), so you might've been tempted to group them with actual words instead of realizing they're hidden country codes. SON and MODRIĆ were probably your biggest red herrings since they're legitimate surnames of 2026 World Cup captains, so if you saw SON you might've been torn between thinking it was a word, a name, or even part of the codes group. KIMMICH and REAM also work as captain names, which made the blue group harder to lock in before you cleared everything else around it.
