Today's Patches board not dividing? Get pointed at the most constrained clue, reveal the first patches, or open the full solved layout.

Patches rules: divide the whole grid into rectangles — each numbered clue sits in a patch of exactly that many cells, and its icon can force the patch to be square, tall or wide. Every cell gets used.

Patches hints (August 16, 2026)

1Where to start
  • Today's board is 8×8 with 16 clues — 6 of them show only a shape icon, so their sizes come from whatever the numbered patches leave behind.
  • Anchor the big numbers first: the 12 at row 6, column 6 dominates the middle of the board, and everything else packs around it.
2The first two patches
  • The 12 at row 6, column 6: its patch covers rows 4–6, columns 4–7.
  • The 6 at row 3, column 3: its patch covers rows 3–5, columns 2–3.

Patches — common questions

What do the icons on Patches numbers mean?

They constrain the patch's shape: square icons need an exact square, tall icons a rectangle taller than wide, wide icons one wider than tall. A clue without a shape icon can be any rectangle of the right size.

Does every cell have to be used in Patches?

Yes — the board must be completely divided, every cell inside exactly one patch, and each patch holding exactly one numbered clue. A leftover cell means an earlier patch is wrong.

Is there a new Patches puzzle every day?

Yes, one daily board shared by all players, with streaks and time comparison like the rest of the LinkedIn games lineup.
